One Simple Step To Freedom, Health & Happiness taught by acclaimed UK mindfulness teacher, Shaun Glossop. A two-hour workshop that explores the underlying essence of meditation as being the skill of moving out of Small Mind (the constricted, ego-centric, analytical mind – which operates by comparison and measurement) into Big Mind (the spaciousness and expansiveness of Pure Awareness – in which we experience the freedom and joy of simply being the ‘Relaxed Witness’). In the course of our time together we will look at how: • Small Mind is driven by a need to control – making life stressful and anxiety based when we engage with the world through Small Mind – while Big Mind is content to observe, watch and experience, allowing things to be just as they are. • Small Mind perceives time as a linear progression (past, present and future) while Big Mind perceives time as ‘the Eternal Now’ in which all events simply unfold. • Small Mind runs on “story” – turning our experience into a narrative, with us as the central character (which is a useful analytical device, but which can give rise to excessive self-absorption and misplaced self-importance) – while Big Mind focuses on the “bigger picture” (resulting in a profound sense of connection and belonging). • Small Mind’s obsession with comparison and measurement sets us up to live from a place of deficit and lack, while Big Mind’s appreciation of things as they are moves us into a mind-set of abundance and gratitude. We will look at how both Small Mind and Big Mind are available to us as an inherent part of our human nature, but how Small Mind tends to act as our “default setting” while the movement into Big Mind always has to be a conscious and deliberate choice. During the workshop we will learn some simple skills and techniques that enable us to un-hook from Small Mind and move quickly and effortlessly into Big Mind – giving us instant access to relaxation, calm, serenity and inner-peace.
