QIGONG -pronounced “Chee gung” is an internal Chinese meditative practice with over 3000 years of history, which combines mindful and slow graceful movements with gentle breathing techniques. The Chinese believed that through gentle exercise, which incorporates the mind, breathing and body, qigong helps to cultivate and promote circulation of ‘qi’ within the human body, thus enhancing a practitioner’s overall health. “Qi” means air, breath or life force; and gong means ‘work’ so Qigong in practice means, “working” with one’s “life force”. There are various forms of Qigong; some are done with no movement at all, in standing, sitting and supine positions, some with gently movements and some with movements mixed with stretching of the body or dynamic exertion of power. There are more than 10,000 styles of qigong and over 200 million people are practicing them all over China and the world. The movements of health qigong are great to reduce stress and anxiety and although performed slowly they can stimulate the muscles and increase energy flow around the body. They are also great for balance and posture, increasing muscle strength, flexibility and much more! Health Qigong is truly an amazing system suitable for people of all ages and all levels of physical ability.
