Zazen with Geoff Shōun O'Keeffe

Details

TIME: 8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET / 4:00 PM GMT 30- minute silent sit hosted by Zen Peacemaker0’s Executive Director Geoff Shōun O’Keeffe. There is no place we can go where the Covid-19 virus cannot reach. Our lives have been upended and our daily routines interrupted. The familiarity of our local landscapes has shifted. Some of us are confined to our homes, either by mandate or by prudent personal choice. Many have the option to work remotely. Others do not. Still, others have workplaces that have closed altogether, leaving us wondering what comes next. We are isolated, and, properly, to protect ourselves and others, isolating from one another. For those of us who are part of local sanghas or other spiritual communities, used to meeting in person regularly, we are staying apart, with our gatherings for meditation, teaching, discussion, and community disrupted. This is as it should be, but separation is unsettling. We say these things not to dwell on the negative but rather to acknowledge what is real and witness how we all must be feeling about it. We are all exposed and raw, standing on shifting ground. So, we want to confront what is going on as an opportunity to face these changes together with deeper connection and intimacy, albeit virtually. 30-minute meditation periods are offered via Zoom every weekday morning, Monday through Thursday, from 11:00 – 11:40 AM U.S. Eastern Time. Zen Peacemakers International: The Zen Peacemaker Order was to be based on Three Tenets: Not-knowing, Bearing Witness and Loving Actions; the Peacemaker Precepts, based on the Zen Buddhist precepts, were articulated by the Founding Teachers of the ZPO: Grover Genro Gauntt, Bernie Glassman, Joan Jiko Halifax, Sandra Jishu Holmes, Eve Myonen Marko, Wendy Egyoku Nakao and Pat Enkyo O’Hara. The Zen Peacemakers were intent on developing practices and skillful means to help people actualize these three tenets. They practiced meditation in an abandoned school site with stones forming a zendo, and developed rules and procedures for the ZPO. Visit https://zenpeacemakers.org/the-three-tenets/daily-practice/
